The Book of Revelation- led by Pastor Merkel, Revelation is surely one of the most misused and misunderstood books of the Bible. Often seen by some Christians as a book to make people fearful, it is in reality one that gives great hope and courage to God’s people. However, the reader must come to terms with the trange and unfamiliar imagery used by the author who employs apocalyptic form. |

THOSE CLOBBER PASSAGES IN THE BIBLE - led by Dr. Everett Kalin, Joseph the servant in Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte is described as “ the earisomest self-righteous Pharisee that ever ransacked a Bible to rake the promises to himself and fling the curses to his neighbors.” In a three week series on Wednesday evenings, Ev Kalin will examine some passages that have been
flung at 1) women who want to be pastors (March 21); 2) GLBT folk (April 11); and 3) those who get divorced (April 18). Along the way we’ll a) try not to judge the judges; b) show what’s problematic about Bronte’s use of the word “Pharisee”; and try to discover what grace has got to do with it all. |
